My name is Nicole Leete and I’ve recently joined the Web Services team, replacing Matt Bailey.  I am your go-to for Drupal training, site administration, event/calendar approvals and overall website support. I’ve been fortunate to meet several friendly faces so far and hope to meet more of you soon.

A note about Drupal updates

A few users have mentioned that you weren’t always required to state “please publish” or “still working”, etc. in the revision log. I tend to err on the side of caution, and am loath to publish something prematurely. Moving forward, please include “Please publish” (or “don’t publish!”) in the revision log along with your changes. Then I won’t have to bug you via email!

In the coming months, watch out for some training videos and/or sessions that will hopefully help users spruce up their content and remind them to follow tried and true web writing / content tactics.

Thanks Trent Bagley for finding it!

While we look for a long-term solution by working with the developer whose module is the root of the problem, if all revisions of a piece of content are unpublished, users not logged into drupal will see the message below allowing them to report the page.

Drupal Users will still be able to see/preview the content; to avoid confusion, we have appended a notice to the top of the page to indicate that the content is still unpublished.

The Drupal manual has also been updated with SEO tips.

Search Engine Optimization or SEO is the act of increasing ways people can find your website via search engines.

The goal is to make emerson.edu more search-friendly so that potential and existing Emerson constituents can find information that is of interest and ultimately do more business with Emerson College i.e. apply for admission, donate money, engage with the college, etc.

These are highlighted and explained below. The Drupal manual has been updated as well.

Design

The design of Drupal 7 is very similar to the previous version. However, you will notice that the login screen looks like the emerson.edu website and the background of the Drupal editor is light blue.

View/Edit Revisions

When one clicks on a page to edit, instead of being taken to the revisions page, you will be directly taken to the most recent revision. This should save you a step.

However, if you need to edit or view a previous revision:

  1. Find the page you are looking for.
  2. Click on Revisions in the top tab.
  3. Find and click on the date of the revision that you would like to view:
  4. Click Edit

Templates

When editing a page, the Templates icon used to add a template to a page or right promo (ex: photo with caption or purple header promo)  has changed:

Templates for Generic Pages, News Articles and Right Promos are now all in the same list. Right promo template names have changed slightly to better differentiate which template is used for which content type, ex: Photo Promo is now Right Promo: Photo

Log Messages

To write a log message:

  1. Scroll to the bottom of the page
  2. Select Revision Information in the tabs, if it is not already selected.
  3. Write out the log message under Revision Log Message
  4. Click Save

Starting Monday January 14 until approximately Wednesday January 16, access to Drupal will be suspended.

If you have any changes/new content you are working on that can be submitted, please submit them before 9:00 am on Monday. If necessary, Web Services will make critical updates on your behalf during the time that access is suspended.

Drupal 7 is a major upgrade from Drupal 6.  While the public website will not change at all, the Administrative interface has changed considerably.  We have attempted to keep your experience as close to the existing system as possible.
