Who is Orientation 2012-2013 Core Staff?

Emerson’s Orientation Program does not happen overnight. Rather, it’s the work of a large, combined team of advisors and students. But what exactly is this Core Staff that keeps getting mentioned? They are the students who work with the Student Life advisors to create Orientation. After a rigorous interview process, eight students are chosen to put together the Orientation program. Since November they’ve been working toward this fall’s Orientation and will spend the entirety of the summer making it as amazing as it possibly can be! So who are these people?

Here is the Core Staff Team!

First there is the Orientation Chair, Mady Scolnick. She is a senior Marketing Communications major with a minor in Business Studies. She’s also the President of Operations of EmEvents, Head of Donations for the Emerson Recognition and Achievement Awards (ERA), Treasurer  for the Class of 2013, and President’s Breakfast Coordinator for the Family Weekend Committee. (Mady keeps busy.) In her spare time she works in the Student Life office and at the Jewish Vocational Service as an employment specialist with individuals with disabilities. She loves Harry Potter, Sherlock and Doctor Who and has a massive obsession with Portal. DFTBA. It’s her life.

Next there’s Charles DeRupe who is the International Pre-Orientation Chair. He is a senior Marketing Communications major with a minor in Sociology. Charles works as the Marketing Manager of Multicultural Student Affairs and GLBTQ (Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer/Questioning) Resources and as an assistant to the Dean of Students. Outgoing President of ASIA (Asian Students for Intercultural Awareness), and a proud member of Acappellics Anonymous and EmComm. He is a big fan of extracurriculars. Fun Fact: Charles has an identical twin brother, so double the Charles, double the fun! He loves design, singing (especially when no one is around), good food, and long conversation.

Shanae Burch is the Parent Orientation Chair. She is a BFA Acting Major and is a proud member of Mercutio Troupe. In past semesters she has performed in Emerson Stage productions and collaborated with Musical Theatre Society, Kidding Around,  Rareworks, and Emerson Dance Company as performer, producer, and/or designer. She will be serving as President of Kappa Gamma Chi in the next academic school year, and beyond extracurriculars at Emerson enjoys being a Big Sister for Big Sisters of Boston, shaking it up at Zumba, and eating Spicy BLT Burritos from Boloco.

Regina Lutskiy is a senior Entertainment Marketing Major with minors in Business Studies and Entrepreneurial Studie. She is from Vitebsk, Belarus. Regina is the captain of the women’s cross country team, secretary of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), and President of EAGLE (Emerson’s Alliance of  Gays, Lesbians, and Everyone). She also Vice President of Sigma Pi Theta and Greek Council. Regina has tons of jobs, but her two favorites are working for Jumpstart and as a personal trainer. Regina ran the Boston Marathon last year and directed a production of Zanna Don’t. Her true passion in life is music

Danielle Kushner is responsible for Move-in. She majors in Studio T.V. Production with a minor in Business Studies, and on campus she serves as the Alumni Relations Chair for Zeta Phi Eta. She is currently producing a Television show and working for the EVVY Awards. Outside of Emerson extracurriculars, her interests include travelling, hiking, stargazing, and getting to know people

Monica de Pinto Ribeiro Hancke [otherwise known as DPRH] is the “baby” of this years’ Core Staff. She’s a junior Theatre Ed & Poli Comm double major, from Europe. On campus she serves as President for Communication Politics & Law Association (CPLA), Kidding Around’s Education Coordinator, a proud sister of Kappa Gamma Chi, the Family Weekend Chair for 2012 and giving tours as an Admissions Representative. Outside Emerson she teaches self-defense and mentors a 2nd grade girl through Big Sister Association. Don’t be surprised if she references Africa every five minutes: it is her passion.

Kevin “Iggy” Dwyer is a senior BA Stage and Production Management major with a minor in Philosophy. Iggy works with Emerson Stage and Kidding Around: Emerson’s Theatre for Young Audience, as well as serving as the Cabaret Coordinator in the Campus Center.  Iggy is an avid outdoorsman and man about town.  His hobbies including snitching for Emerson College Quidditch, biking, and Beyonce.  On Core Staff, Iggy works with OL Issues, the Organization Fair, Public Safety, the Wellness Fair, and the Orientation Dan

Finally there is me! The author of this particular post and all coming posts, Jordan Stillman! I am the appointed individual for all things social media so you’ll be hearing from me a lot this summer. I am coming into my senior year as a B.F.A. Writing, Literature & Publishing major with a minor in history. I was the Editor-in-Chief of the 2011-2012 yearbook and currently serve on staff as advising editor! I’m also a member of Undergraduate Students for Publishing and serve as managing editor for thecommonvoice.net.
