January 2019

We hope you had a happy New Year and welcome you (back) to Emerson! Here are a few reminders to ensure a smooth start to the semester.

  • Review your Class Schedule on eCommon and make sure you are registered for the correct courses and credit amounts (e.g., for 8-credit internships).
  • Be aware of the upcoming registration dates, listed below.
  • Check eCommon to see if you have any holds.

If you’re new to eCommon or need a refresher, check our instructions page.

Course Registration Deadlines

1/14–1/20 (1st week): You may add or drop courses online (instructions)
(2nd week): You must have instructor permission applied to your account (not just an email or verbal confirmation) to add a course. You may still drop courses online. This second week of registration is not applicable to Speech@Emerson students.

Registration Permissions

If you do not meet the requirements for a course, or the course is full, you may ask for permission to register for that course.

Who do you ask for permission?
Review the Errors and Permissions chart to determine whose permission you need. If there are multiple restrictions, you may need permission from multiple people.

What are the steps?

  1. Request permission from the appropriate person (see above).
  2. If permission is granted, the granter will email their permission to their department admin.
  3. A department admin will apply the permission to your account and notify you via email.
  4. Once you receive this email, it is your responsibility to register for the course through eCommon. It is not automatically added.

See the Registration Permissions Instructions for more details.

ProArts Cross-Registration

If you are interested in registering for a ProArts course, please:

Please note that ProArts courses are worth the amount of credits that they are granted by their offering institution. For example, a 1.5-credit Berklee course will be worth 1.5 credits at Emerson. First semester freshmen and graduate students are not eligible to cross-register for ProArts courses.
