BOSTON – Just before the 88th Academy Awards were held on Sunday, February 28th, entertainment experts gathered at Emerson LA on Thursday, February 25th to discuss the subject of Oscar buzz. Specifically, industry leaders in public relations, marketing and journalism discussed the strategies and tactics used to promote movie success.
Emerson Students Gain Expert Insight Into Entertainment Marketing, P.R. From “Best Practitioners in the Field”
The panel consisted of Dana Bseiso, a senior film and awards publicist at The Angellotti Company; Kymn Goldstein, an Executive Vice President with Allied Integrated Marketing, the largest entertainment advertising, publicity and promotions firm in North America; Tim Gray, the Awards Editor and Senior Vice President of Variety; Pete Hammond, the Chief Film Critic and Awards Columnist for Deadline Hollywood; Lisa Taback, a veteran entertainment public relations and marketing consultant whose Oscar campaigns this year included Spotlight and Room; and Rob Wilkinson, a Senior Vice President of Media & Research for Fox Searchlight Pictures whose Oscar nominated films this year were Brooklyn and Youth.
“This was a great opportunity for students to learn about these strategies and tactics from some of the best practitioners in the field,” said Owen Eagan, an Executive-in-Residence in the Department of Communication Studies who organized and moderated the event. “These are the types of experiences that enhance our students’ education and professional development.”
Additionally, the event featured introductory remarks from Kevin Bright, the Vice President and Founding Director of Emerson LA. Among his many achievements, Bright was one of the original Executive Producers behind the Emmy Award-winning television series Friends. In light of its prestigious guests, the event also drew many attendees from the entertainment industry and general public.
