Cathryn Cushner Edelstein, Scholar-in-Residence in the Communication Studies Department presented at the PSLLT 4th Annual Conference, on August 24, 2012 at the Wosk Centre for Dialogue at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, British Columbia. This conference assembled linguists, researchers and teachers who focus on teaching and studying pronunciation. Her presentation topic: L1 and L2 Learners in the College Public Speaking Course, provided observations and pedagogy for native English speakers and English as a Second Language speakers integrated in public speaking courses. Grammar, fluency, articulation, intonation, comprehension, and group work were discussed. She addressed the challenges, the benefits, and offered ideas on how best to provide a public speaking course that addresses the needs of both L1 and L2 learners.
